Last statutory update: 4 Nov 2026 — v1.1 — first publication 2026-11-04.

Statutory context

Sections 200 and 206 of the Income-tax Act, 2025 as amended by the Finance Act, 2026: MAT 14% of book profit, final; brought-forward credit set off only after the section 200(5)/201(2) option, capped at 25% of the tax payable on total income, not beyond the 15th tax year after it arose. The section 200 option (22% + 10% surcharge + 4% cess = 25.168%) is irrevocable and exercised in the return (Rule 136, Income-tax Rules 2026). The CBDT FAQs read both ways on a switch after 2026-27 (Q.5(iii) against Q.5(vi) and Q.12); the page shows both. Ind AS 12 probability test / ICAI Guidance Note on MAT credit for the write-down.
