CA Final November 2026: the form is closed, 10 October is still open

Summary

If you are writing the CA Final in November 2026, the exam form closed on 5 August, but ICAI's eligibility announcement of 4 July 2026 sets one more date: Advanced ICITSS and the Self-Paced Online Modules that apply to you must be completed on or before 10 October 2026. That is fifteen days from today, and a student who has applied but misses it is holding a form for a sitting the announcement says they are not eligible for.

The situation

November 2026 is the first November under the new calendar. From May 2026 the Final is held twice a year, in May and November, and the January sitting is gone. A cut-off missed by a day now costs six months, not four.

The form for this sitting opened on 6 July, closed on 22 July, and was re-opened for five days, 1 to 5 August 2026, as a one-time measure because the cycle change had confused students. So the application is done. What is left is three conditions the form did not check for you: the training cut-off, the Advanced ICITSS course, and the modules. ICAI publishes all three as prose, in a fresh announcement every sitting, and a dozen coaching sites rewrite it. I teach a few hundred of the students who read those rewrites, and the same three questions arrive every cycle.

The rule

ICAI's announcement for November 2026 (4 July 2026) sets these dates:

Two points the table cannot show. First, "including excess leave" is in the announcement's own words: leave taken beyond your entitlement extends the training day for day, so the completion date that governs is your start date plus the prescribed period plus every excess day, not the date on your Form 103. Second, the last-six-months alternative requires you to be in service on the first day of the exam month. A student on a break in training, or one who has terminated articles and not re-registered, is not on that branch.

Which modules you owe depends on when you were admitted to the Final and what you have already passed. Sets: A is Corporate and Economic Laws, B is Strategic Cost and Performance Management, C is one specialised elective, D is one multidisciplinary elective. The table below is read top to bottom and the first line that fits you is the answer:

Exam gate or membership gate. The announcement makes Advanced ICITSS a condition of eligibility for the November 2026 examination for New Scheme students. Old Scheme students who have appeared in the Final at least once may sit without it and must complete it before applying for membership. For the modules, ICAI's wording for the transition buckets (rows 6 and 7) is that Sets A and B must be qualified before applying for membership, while the 10 October date in the announcement reads as an exam gate for students admitted from November 2024. Sources disagree on this split; more below.

Where people go wrong

Reading the Form 103 date as the cut-off. The prescribed period plus excess leave is what ICAI counts. Forty days of excess leave on a three-year article that started on 22 March 2024 moves the completion date to the last day that keeps November 2026 alive. Forty-one days loses it.

Assuming SPOM is a membership formality. For a student admitted from November 2024 the modules carry the same 10 October date as Advanced ICITSS. A module not cleared by then is not a problem for later; on the announcement's wording it is a problem for this sitting.

Mixing up Intermediate Paper 4 and 5 with Old Final Paper 4 and 5. Several blogs describe the waivers in rows 2 to 5 as Intermediate exemptions. They are Old Scheme Final papers. Old Final Paper 4 is Corporate and Economic Laws, which is Set A; Paper 5 is Strategic Cost Management, which is Set B. That content identity is the whole reason the waiver exists. Intermediate Paper 4 is Taxation and Paper 5 is Advanced Accounting, and neither earns a waiver.

Choosing Set C or D without checking. A seven-paper candidate must take one of the two. The rule says "any one" and does not tie it to the group you passed. A module cleared in the wrong set is not refundable, and the SPOM helpline is the place to ask, not a study group.

Confusing eligible with entered. The eligibility dates describe a sitting; the form window decides whether you are in it. A student who meets every date above but did not apply by 5 August is looking at May 2027, and the dates that govern May 2027 are different ones.

What to do

1. Recompute your training completion date today: start date, plus the prescribed period, plus every day of excess leave your principal has recorded. Compare it with 31 October 2026 or 30 April 2027 as your route requires.
2. If you are on the last-six-months branch, confirm you will be in service on 1 November 2026. A break in training or an unfilled re-registration takes that branch away.
3. Find your row in the modules table, then check the ICAI portal for each set you owe. Book the remaining assessments now; 10 October is a Saturday, and the last slots go first.
4. If Advanced ICITSS is not complete, treat 10 October 2026 as the date, whatever your batch centre has told you about certificates arriving later.

The tool

I kept doing this arithmetic on WhatsApp for students, one at a time, and the answer was wrong as often as it was right because it depends on four dates nobody carries in their head. So I built a small resolver. You enter your training route and start date, your excess leave days, when you cleared each Intermediate group, when you were first admitted to the Final, and which modules and courses you have already done. It tells you the first sitting you are eligible for, the exact cut-off that decides it and how many more leave days you can afford before you lose it, the sets you owe with the reason for each, and your exam gates and membership gates as two separate lists, with a button that copies the verdict as plain text for a student group. It does not know whether you actually filed the exam form, it assumes you will be in service on the first day of the exam month, it does not compute your leave entitlement, and it does not file anything or touch the SSP portal. Nothing you type leaves your browser.
